Hymn Settings

As a church organist off and on over the years (and with a wife that has been one too), I have had many occasions to write hymn settings for organ. My entire career as a composer for organ (ca. 1996-2026) is encompassed in this body of work. Most of them are single settings of a hymn tune; some of them are grouped into sets of three or four or five. Principal Chorus is a collection of some of my earlier hymn settings and consists of nine settings of seven different hymn tunes along with two free accompaniments. Some of what I was going for in these settings was a dash of playfulness, or a sense of awe, or of mystery. A few of these may perhaps be more appropriate in a recital setting than a worship setting, though all of them come from a place of sincerity and devotion.
